MARCH TO DEFEND JOBS & LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

As the recession bites and unemployment tops 2 million, record numbers want to take up adult education and university courses. So isn’t it irresponsible to slash the number and range of college courses by sacking lecturers and support staff? Isn’t it reckless too, when 100,000 jobs are vanishing a month, to add hundreds more to the tally by relocating civil servants posts outside London?

This is the local picture in Islington and Holloway. Here over 1,500 jobs are in the firing line. Without them, livelihoods will be lost, opportunities will dry up and the area will be afflicted by a spiral of decline.

At City University adult education courses are at risk, at London Metropolitan University scores of courses will vanish with over 550 posts in the sights, while at Archway Tower 500 civil service posts providing benefits to disabled people are jeopardised.

Join us! This march links up those fighting to defend local jobs and opportunities. It brings together university lecturers, support staff, students and civil servants demonstrating against these attacks.

Starting from Highbury close to City University, with its long service to the local community under threat, we pass London Met University in Holloway, where its ‘widening participation’ agenda could become a relic if courses and facilities, such as nurseries close. We rally at Archway Tower, the threatened workplace of hundreds of Civil Service staff.

March with us to say ‘NO’ to this avoidable cull of jobs, ‘NO’ to the narrowing of educational choice and ‘NO’ to the shrinking circle of opportunity.

  • Assemble 11.00 a.m. Saturday May 23rd Highbury Fields, N1.
  • Demonstrate & March
  • from Highbury Fields to rally in Archway Park

Followed by an evening of music & comedy to Defend Adult Education, 7.30pm, the Cross Kings,126 York Way, NI Organised by CALL, (Campaign for Adult Lifelong Learning)

  1. Hi, I am currently in Canada and want to relocate to London. Are there enough jobs in London to survive?

Kindly comment as I really want to know if it is worth to relocate?

  4. PROBABLY THE WORST BOOK IN THE WORLD
THIS MAY SOUND SILLY. IT ISN'T, IT IS TRUE.

    PLEASE CIRCULATE.

Books Written By Humphrey Shaw, Lecturer, London Metropolitan University

Humphrey Shaw has written several books on Accounting and Finance. One is called “Strategic Financial Management” ISBN 1854500422. IT IS HIDEOUS and it is being used by students (Feb 2010).There are conceptual, technical, definitional, computational, grammatical and lexical errors.

The book is UTTERLY GRUESOME*. Shaw IS UTTERLY INCOMPETENT.

    {*In chapter 7 alone I counted over 50 errors..in just 10 pages. One of the errors is the title, “Risk Management”. The chapter contains nothing on that subject (but it does discuss women's skirts and a total of probabilities = 1.6!! ). This chapter alone proves he is an idiot. [before you get uppity, Humphrey, ask someone who understands basic statistics (so not Tutti Frutti) to check].}

THE NONSENSE IS MASSIVELY BEYOND HUMAN IMAGINATION.

Shaw has been teaching the subject for 20+ years at London Metropolitan university.

The linear programming (Ch9 Str. Fin. Mangt.)) looks like the mindless ramblings of an imbecile. My sister's cat's testicles could do better! [get it checked, Humphrey. Again , not by Tutti Frutti]

The rest of the book is just as bad, page after page of drivelling mindless nonsense.

Why is a MAN WITH WEAK MATHS. SKILLS & NO FINANCE QUALIFICATION TEACHING FINANCE [which is mathematical. His membership of The ASSOC. CORPORATE TREAURERS, MCT, was NOT by examination ( he slipped in before they required that. How???) so it means nothing. ]?

Why does he teach “RESEARCH METHODS” with NO RESEARCH EXPERIENCE? (He wrote a Ph.D. Thesis 15 years ago. He will not allow me to BUY a COPY from Swansea University, not even through Ethos.BL . He barred access after I pointed out I had seen a lot of copied material in some of his books. It is surprising that someone whose English is so weak (it is dreadful) as Shaw's has written a Ph.D. Thesis. WHY WILL YOU NOT ALLOW ME TO READ IT, Humphrey? What do you not want me to see?

Several professional reviewers have written SCATHING REVIEWS of Shaw's books. One reviewer (a professional accountant and university lecturer) said one of the books had about 2,000 errors.
The University has shown no concern.

Why is Shaw. with no understanding of Finance, allowed teach on Finance Master's programmes ? Why have managers (Incl. Jean Fawcett and Bob Morgan, both fully aware) ignored the problems.

STUDENTS ARE ENTITLED TO ANSWERS FROM THE VICE CHANCELLOR. HE IS FULLY AWARE OF THE MATTERS ABOVE.
SO TOO ARE HEFCE*, WHO ARE DERELICT.

Some years ago, many people told blatant lies to support Shaw's books: Frank Blewett, Stuart Cole, Denise Naylor, Sue Tootoonchian(? below ) . Jean Fawcett acted to defend Shaw, as did Paul Joyce and Brian Roper. Lyn Link acted to prevent me exposing corruption. Others colluded**. [Blewett wrote, and told, many vile and vicious lies to hide his gross negligence over many years. He organised the group of liars. Was he led by someone even more vile?

    Rob Slack February 2010 slack.rob@hotmail.co.uk

*HEFCE allocate billions of pounds of taxpayers money to universities; They have known about the problem for over 10 years. THEY ARE KNOWINGLY ALLOWING MISUSE OF TAXPAYERS FUNDS.

(?) Perhaps not Toots. Maybe she read the drivel without realising; after all, it is all about maths., statistics and economics.

**e.g. Shaw co-wrote a book with Sally Messenger (for Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure students). It is massively & obviously flawed, containing hundreds of errors. Was it recommended by a UNL lecturer? I'll check the notes from a meeting.
